The Danish word Hygge is the latest buzz-word filling the lifestyle press and has taken over from mindfulness and well-being as the trend of the moment.
The Oxford dictionary describes Hygge [pronounced hoo-ga] as “a quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being.”
Lower north shore and northern beaches folk have always been quick to adopt a new trend and right now when the weather is turning chilly and the world outside seems to be going crazy, embracing the concept of Hygge seems particularly inviting.
Hygge can be many things… A cosy fire on a chilly night; candlelight; the sweet aroma of home baking; setting a pretty table; sharing a meal; spending time with loved ones. Now is the time to gather your friends and family close, pamper yourself a little; fill your home with comfort and take some time out to relax.
